A potent storm season devastated the Jersey Shore town this past winter — wiping away most of a $37.7 million federal sand replenishment project that dropped roughly 550,000 cubic yards of sand on the beach there and even more sand in Stone Harbor.

NORTH WILDWOOD, N.J. — A long-running sandstorm at the Jersey Shore could soon come to an end as New Jersey will carry out an emergency beach replenishment project at one of the state’s most badly eroded beaches.

Roland Millard has lived on the Wildwood boardwalk for about 27 years. In all that time, there’s always been plenty of sand to set up an umbrella and foldable chair on the resort town’s notoriously wide beach.

County beach desperate for more sand will get some emergency help for this summer, officials said. The state has authorized a short-term beach renourishment project along the coast of North Wildwood.
